Live MVP Licensed content for AI agents

Publishers compete to answer AI agents' questions.

Clear Exchange is a private exchange for licensed content. An agent asks a question; publishers answer with priced, licensed offers ranked by relevance. The agent buys a signed entitlement, retrieves exactly what it licensed, and reports how it used it. Every retrieval is cleared and measured.

The demo runs on the real API. Its paid publishers are fictional; open content comes live from Wikinews and Wikipedia.

How it works

One request in. Licensed, measured content out.

Five steps, each a plain HTTPS call. The live demo walks through all of them and shows every request and response.

  1. 1

    Query

The agent sends a natural-language question with a max price and the usage it needs: grounding only, a display snippet, or full text.

    POST /v1/query
  2. 2

    Ranked licensed offers

Publishers' content is priced from their own rate cards and ranked by relevance. Price only excludes offers; it never buys position.

  3. 3

    Signed entitlement

Accepting an offer returns a signed token for one piece of content, one usage tier and a fixed time window, verifiable offline.

    POST /v1/offers/{id}/accept
  4. 4

    Retrieval

Content is served only with a valid entitlement, together with the licence it was bought under: attribution, display limits, retention.

    GET /v1/content/{id}
  5. 5

    Telemetry and clearing

The agent reports whether content was grounded, cited, presented and engaged with. Each paid retrieval is recorded as gross, fee and publisher net.

    POST /v1/telemetry

For publishers

Get paid when AI uses your journalism, on your terms.

  • Set your own price per use. A rate card per usage tier, with rules by section, tag or article age.
  • Win on relevance. Agents see the best answer to their question first; cheaper content does not jump the queue.
  • Licence terms travel with the content. Citation, attribution, snippet length, retention and AI-training terms are signed into every entitlement.
  • See how your content is used. Grounded, cited, shown to a user, clicked: reported per retrieval using SPUR Content Telemetry.
  • A clear record of earnings. Every paid retrieval is logged with gross, clearing fee and your net.

For AI companies and agent builders

Licensed answers from many publishers through one API.

  • One integration, many sources. Query once; offers come back from every connected publisher.
  • Pay per retrieval, within your budget. Set a max price per query and the usage you need; pay only for what you retrieve.
  • Know exactly what you may do. Machine-readable terms on every offer, so your agent can respect them automatically.
  • Proof of licence. Entitlements are signed (EdDSA JWS) and verifiable against a public key set.
  • Built for agents. JSON in, JSON out, stable error codes and idempotent telemetry.

Trust

Verifiable by design, built on open standards.

We mark what runs today and what is on the roadmap.

  • Live

    Signed entitlements

Each purchase is an Ed25519-signed token naming the agent, content, usage tier and expiry. Anyone can verify it offline with the published keys at /.well-known/jwks.json.

  • Live

    SPUR Content Telemetry

Usage is reported as SPUR Coalition Content Telemetry v1.0 events (retrieved, grounded, cited, presented, engaged), authorised by the entitlement and deduplicated per event.

  • Roadmap

    Confidential-VM attestation

Running the exchange in a confidential VM, so publishers and buyers can check by remote attestation exactly which code handles their content and data.

Open Prebid and Trusted Server seller module

An open-source seller module for Prebid and IAB Tech Lab's Trusted Server, so publishers can offer content to the exchange from infrastructure they already run.

Standards: SPUR Content Telemetry v1.0 · JWS and EdDSA (RFC 7515, RFC 8037) · integration targets IAB Tech Lab CoMP and Trusted Server, Prebid · Web Bot Auth for agent identity (roadmap)
